How To Read Tea Leaves

how to read tea leaves

Reading tea leaves, or Tasseography, is an old and fun form of divination. It relies on the reader's ability to interpret symbols and patterns created by steeped tea leaves left within a cup. To read someones tea leaves, first must be prepared a cup of fine loose leaf tea. The tea should be prepared with care, mindfully, and allowed to steep to steep in a white cup, preferably. Allow the person receiving the reading to drink the tea, infusing a portion of their emotional essence into the leaves.

Drink the loose leaf tea until there is only a small amount of liquid remaining at the bottom of the cup. There should also be a small amount of the loose leaf tea at the bottom of the cup. Now, hold the cup in the left hand and rotate clockwise three times, allowing the liquid and the loose leaf tea to swirl, spreading the tea leaves around to the rim of the cup. Then turn the cup over, upside down on a towel, or the saucer, and allow the fluids to drain. The individual receiving the tea leaf reading should place their hands over the cup at this time, while it is draining and hold for seven seconds.

The cup is then turned over and the reader begins the process of interpreting the images and patterns made by the leaves within the cup. Lots of images represent many important issues in a persons life, larger images represent more important issues. The images or patterns that are read amongst the leaves deep down in the recesses of the cup are often interpreted as issues relating to a persons past. When reading tea leaves, the images found nearer the rim are often associated with a person's near future. Readers of tea leaves tend to develop their own interpretations based on their intuition, so these are only guidelines.

Much like seeing images when looking at clouds, let your mind see the patterns. The images are as varied as the imagination, but some symbols that you may see have traditional meanings. For example, when reading tea leaves, the apple is commonly associated as symbol of achievement, birds as good news, eye with caution, a flag as danger, horseshoe as goodluck, an ostrich with travel. You get the idea.

Use a black tea with a white cup, this will aid in the clarity of the images. A Ceylon Kennilworth black tea is a good choice for reading tea leaves. It is traditional, tasty, and has a vibrant loose leaf that readily lends itself to creating mystical symbols within your cup. A nice Darjeeling black tea would be my second choice, and luckily both make an excellent cup of tea to enjoy along with the reading!
